Background
The Teaching Council is an independent statutory body for the New Zealand teaching profession. The Unteach Racism initiative is part of a larger and ongoing journey that the Teaching Council is working on with the Human Rights Commission, which builds on the Commission's Give Nothing to Racism project. The Teaching Council wishes to empower the New Zealand teaching profession to have safe and productive conversations around racism, allowing them to work towards unteaching racism and to change attitudes and behaviours, so that no kind of racism is tolerated in schools/kura/centres, Initial Teacher Education providers or in any other approved learning setting.
The Unteach Racism website provides the teaching profession with a range of resources, materials, modules, tools and information (including the ability to sign up to the Unteach Racism newsletter) which can be accessed and used by the profession to ensure that they to feel supported as they work towards tackling issues of racism in education and the wider community.
We recognise the information we collect and care for is taonga and will treat that information with the utmost respect and in accordance with our obligations and responsibilities under the Privacy Act 2020. The Teaching Council will only collect your personal information for the purposes described in the section headed "Purpose and collection of personal information" below.
